I was reading in Real Simple magazine and came across a little blurb they'd written about how state governments have about $33 billion worth of unclaimed property -- uncashed checks, bank-account balances, etc. -- just sitting in state treasuries. Sounded intriguing enough and there was a website, unclaimed.org, so I checked it out. Among those missing money were my cousin, my aunt and Heath's mom. Crazy!
You gotta check it out. After searching for your own name in all the states you've lived in, spend a few minutes searching for other family and friends. What a thrill to get to be the person to tell Nanny that you've found that 25 bucks she's been missing!
